The well-known boxing teacher ?Yodthong? died at Chonburi hospital at the age of 76. He was known for training Thai boxing champions, but more so for his good heart. He had won 56 million THB in the national lottery, but spent it all to open Muay Thai boxing camps and give to needy people.
CHONBURI ? February 8, 2013 [PDN]; at 1:45 p.m., a nurse at the male patient ward of Chonburi hospital informed people that the famous Thai boxing coach Mr. Yodthong Srivaralak or teacher Tui or Yodthong Senanun, had just died.
The nurse said Mr. Yodthong died peacefully at the age of 76, from pneumonia and infection of his lungs, with the fatal germs finally invading his bloodstream. His body will be kept in the room reserved for deceased patients, to wait for relatives to pick up the body to perform the religious rites.
One of Mr. Yodthong?s nephews said he was so sad over his uncle?s death. He had really wanted him to recover from his illness. He mentioned that that his uncle ended up so poor, he couldn?t afford to be cured at a private hospital, so he came to Chonburi hospital and died in a destitute room.
Yet, in 2005, Mr. Yodthong had won the Thai national lottery for 56 million THB. But he gave all of his money to the local people, and also opened up many Muay Thai boxing camps around the world. Even when his uncle didn?t have any money left, when people came to ask for money, he would borrow money from other people to give to them, his nephew said of his soft-hearted uncle.
Mr. Theera Phongwan or Yodsanun 3K battery, said that before his teacher Tui died, he would joke that he did not want his body to be cremated or buried. During cremation he was afraid to feel hot while his body was being burned. Or if his body was buried, he was afraid that he would feel like he could not breathe.
In fact Mr. Yodthong had said that when he died, he wanted his body given to the Sityodthong boxing camp built in Pattaya, to bury him in the graveyard at the boxing camp which was already built, in order to preserve the memory for the new generation of people, to preserve the art of Thai boxing to stay with Thai people forever.
Mr. Theera said that his former teacher Tui had personally taught him many things outside of boxing, like how to behave himself in the society. He had also been forbidden to drink liquor or smoke cigarettes.
The history of Mr. Yodthong is of a man who has done outstanding work in culture, sports and recreation at Chonburi province since1989. He began training as a boxer after he graduated in primary school grade 4. When he was 36 years old, he built his boxing camp, named ?Yodthong camp,? and had so many pupils.
Among Mr. Yodthong?s well-known boxing pupils are Samart Phayakaroon, the ex-world champion, only the 10thperson from Thailand to hold a world title; and Yodsanun 3 K battery, the WBA ex-champion super featherweight.
