Trap game this was not.

The New Mexico Lobos men?s basketball team dismantled visiting Fresno State 72-45 in The Pit on Saturday.

Usual starters Kendall Williams and Chad Adams rode the bench to open the game.

The last time Williams was benched in an afternoon game where UNM was favored the Lobos lost to South Dakota State.

Williams never entered the game and the Lobos did not struggle this time.

The Lobos (15-2, 2-0 MWC) had three different players score in double digits.

Alex Kirk led all scorers with 19 points. Forward Cameron Bairstow and guard Tony Snell chipped in 16 points apiece.

Fresno State (6-9, 0-2 MWC) was down 32-29 in the first half, and never had the chance to gain an advantage in the second half.

The Bulldogs, winless in their first two Mountain West Conference games, will host Wyoming next.

Marvelle Harris led the Bulldogs scoring effort with 11 points.?No other Fresno State player scored in double digits.

It wasn?t all cherry for the Lobos. UNM shot a pathetic 2 for 12 from the 3-point line. However, the Lobos offset poor outside shooting with great interior play. The Lobos shot 49 percent from the field and outrebounded the Bulldogs 42-21.

Fresno State opened the new year with a loss to conference power San Diego State.
