MOST Technology Is Expanding to the United States

MOST Presentation at SAE Convergence at Booth 706

Karlsruhe (Germany) August 21, 2012 ? At the upcoming SAE Convergence on October 16 to 17, 2012, the MOST Cooperation (MOSTCO) ? the standardization organization for the leading automotive multimedia network Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) ? will exhibit the latest technology highlights at Booth 706. MOST is used in over 120 vehicle models to efficiently transport audio and video around the vehicle with very efficient bandwidth utilization and low processing overhead. The latest generation of MOST, MOST150, now also includes a dedicated Ethernet channel to make MOST the ideal network backbone for a broad variety of applications within the vehicle, including connected services and general Internet access. During this leading automotive exhibition in Detroit (Michigan, United States) at the Cobo Center, the MOST Cooperation will also celebrate the expansion of MOST Technology to the United States. ?The first two vehicles with MOST by a US carmaker are on the road already and others will follow soon.? stated Dr. Christian Thiel, MOST Cooperation Administrator.

At this leading automotive electronics trade show, the MOST Cooperation will demonstrate a technology update and outlook including the network integration of diverse applications ? such as Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) ? and easier connection to IT systems inside and outside the vehicle. With the current MOST150 rollout, the MOST Cooperation is adding a dedicated Ethernet channel to the other widely used transport mechanisms already supported by MOST for the transport of audio, video and control information within the car. The Ethernet Channel of MOST150 operates like an IEEE802.x network. MOST150 multiplexes Ethernet technology onto a networking technology that was designed to meet stringent automotive requirements.

About MOST Technology
MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) is a multimedia networking technology optimized for use in cars and other applications. It enables the transport of high Quality of Service audio and video together with packet data and real-time control over a single transmission medium. MOST can use plastic optical fibers (POF), coax based electrical physical layer, and shielded and unshielded twisted pair (STP/UTP) copper wires that meet automotive environmental requirements. Today, MOST is used in over 120 car models as the communication backbone for their information and entertainment equipment.

About MOST Cooperation
The MOST Cooperation (MOSTCO) is the organization through which MOST Technology is standardized and refined so that it continues to stay abreast of the latest industry requirements. Today it consists of 16 international carmakers and more than 60 key component suppliers. They have joined together to work with the MOST Technology and to contribute to its innovation. The MOST Cooperation is prepared to embrace efforts to further develop and standardize the technology for other industries and to establish the corresponding work structures. The MOST Cooperation was founded in 1998 to standardize MOST Technology as a global standard for multimedia networking. Audi, BMW, Daimler, HARMAN and SMSC are its core partners and constitute its Steering Committee. For more information see http://www.mostcooperation.com.
